Frequently Asked Questions

What is psychotherapy?

The goal of psychotherapy is to support individuals where they are at and where they want to go by helping them explore and understand their thoughts, emotions, and actions, fostering the development of effective coping mechanisms to navigate mental health challenges and symptoms. It offers a path to healing and enhancing overall well-being by mitigating or managing distressing symptoms. People are drawn to psychotherapy for a variety of reasons, each as unique as the individuals themselves. Some of these reasons include:

  • Support through life changes (job loss, move, divorce, the death of a loved one)

  • Dealing with grief or loss

  • Facing challenges related to infertility or family planning

  • Improving relationships and resolving conflicts

  • Relieving stress

  • Anxiety (general, OCD, phobia, PTSD)

  • Managing mood and unhealthy reactions

  • Personality disorders (borderline, narcissistic)

  • Mood disorders (depression, bipolar)

  • Sleep issues

  • Recovering from abuse

  • Enhancing self-understanding and self-esteem

What can I expect during the consultation?

We will explore what has prompted you (or your child/adolescent) to seek therapy. This is a time for us to understand your goals for this journey, and to share how our approach can support you in achieving them. We aim to create a safe space where all your questions are welcomed and answered, ensuring you feel informed and comfortable. Additionally, we'll cover practical matters such as insurance coverage, session rates, and scheduling options, always with empathy and an understanding of your unique circumstances. This consultation is the first step towards nurturing a supportive and therapeutic partnership.

What is the cancellation fee?

Your appointment time is a special reservation just for you, reflecting our mutual commitment to your journey. I understand life's unpredictability and the necessity for flexibility. However, to maintain the valuable continuity of our therapeutic work together, a cancellation policy is essential. If you're unable to give at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or if you miss your appointment, you will be charged for your session. This policy is in place with empathy, aiming to balance respect for your time and the scheduling needs of our practice.

How long is a session?

A session runs for a length of 50 minutes.

How long does someone attend therapy?

The duration of therapy truly varies from person to person, as each individual's needs are unique. Some may enter therapy with a precise short-term objective, finding that a handful of sessions are sufficient to meet their goals. Others seek ongoing support, navigating various life stages with their therapist by their side. The frequency and length of therapy are tailored to your needs and desires. We are here to accommodate what feels right for you, ensuring that the process is both supportive and flexible. Initially, sessions might be more frequent to foster a strong foundation for progress. As you begin to notice improvements, it's common to extend the intervals between sessions. Remember, this journey is yours, and we're here to support you every step of the way, for as long as you find it beneficial.
